چکیده

There is a growing need for quality of service (QoS) provisioning over 802.11 wireless local area networks. The 802.11e amendment addresses this need by allowing for traffic to be given different priority assignments. This can allow for QoS to be provided by service differentiation. In this paper we provide a simple throughput/delay analysis for p-persistent CSMA which can be used as an analysis for 802.11e. We show how this simple analysis can allow for system optimisation and also show how effective service differentiation can be achieved.

A Geometric Distribution for Backoff Time in IEEE 802.11 DCF: An Analytical Study

Today’s networks, including WLANs, transport different classes of services. A service differentiation is then essential to provide QoS. However, IEEE 802.11 for WLANs was primarily designed for best effort traffic and did not provide QoS specifications. IEEE 802.11e MAC has been then described to support QoS in WLAN. In this paper, we propose a new scheme for service differentiation which is ba...

Performance Comparison of IEEE 802.11e EDCA and 802.11b DCF Under Non- Saturation Condition using Network Simulator

In this study, throughput and delay performance of IEEE 802.11b and 802.11e is presented under non-saturation conditions. In order to improve the performance of IEEE 802.11b, the IEEE 802.11e has been proposed to improve the Quality of Services (QoS) for multimedia application. The standard 802.11b CSMA/CA contention mechanism does not support QoS but the standard 802.11e provides QoS by adjust...

Throughput Analysis Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA with Multiple Access Categories

IEEE 802.11e standard has been specified to support differentiated quality of service (QoS), one of the critical issues on the conventional IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the fundamental and mandatory contention-based channel access method of IEEE 802.11e, and delivers traffic based on differentiated Access Categories (ACs). A gen...

Performance analysis of differentiated QoS in IEEE 802.11e WLANs

This paper proposes a multi-dimensional Markov model to analyse the performance of the IEEE 802.11e EDCF MAC protocol. Based on this model, we present extensive performance evaluation in terms of throughput, throughput ratios, and access delay of flows of distinct priorities under RTS/CTS mode. We also provide quantitative analysis of the impact of prioritized parameters, i.e. Arbitration Inter...

802.11e EDCA Parameter Optimization Based on Synchronized Time

IEEE 802.11 based wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are fast becoming the standard in homes, businesses, and public hotspots. As well as supporting conventional Internet applications such as email, file transfer and web access, WLANs are increasingly required to support Quality of Service (QoS)-centric applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and Video over IP, which are delay sensitive and...
